What's the meaning of "Freedom in a Fetter?"

Flashback to Portland, OR. Circa 2011.

I was walking to my coffee shop job in rain soaked shoes with headphone’s dangling around my ears, listening to Sufjan Steven’s cover of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing.

“Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee.”

I was wrestling with the idea of faith seeming like a ball and chain - something holding me back. But if I’m to be tied to God’s goodness, shouldn’t it be freeing?

The same goes for marriage and motherhood and whatever other commitments we make out of the spark of love. We are bound to these things. And sometimes we give into the exhaustion and see these gifts as burdens that bind us, not fetters that free us to truly love.

My goal here with The Letter Club is to encourage you to see the magic in the mundane.
Each month you will receive an intentionally crafted letter from me, and a postcard featuring an original photograph of my own, in hopes to help you find the awe in this extraordinarily ordinary life.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the sign up deadline?

All sign ups between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their letter later that month. If you sign up on the 11th, your letter will arrive at the end of the following month.

When is my account charged?

Your account is charged on the day you signed up. If you signed up on the 8th, it will be billed the following month on the 8th. If you signed-up on the 15th, you will be billed the following month on the 15th.

What if my mailing address changes?

Email me directly at hello@chanellekirby.com and I will update your mailing address.

How do I cancel?

Simply send me an email providing your name and the email with which you signed up, and I'll cancel your subscription immediately.

What if my letter never arrives?

Reach out to me and I'll either send you a new one or offer a refund.

Will my letter have a tracking number?

Unfortunately the letters are not tracked in order to keep costs reasonable. (To add tracking would cost more than the subscription itself.) If anything goes wrong in the post, I'm happy to send you a new one!

Are the Freedom in a Fetter Letters sent internationally?

Yes, the Letter Club is available internationally! Though please keep in mind it could take up to 2-4 weeks for you to receive your letter. Shipping in the U.S. is included, but for all orders outside the U.S. there is a $3 shipping fee calculated at checkout.
